The tables
below contain the number of laboratory notifications of human RR and BF arboviral
infections by Area Health Service (AHS) for NSW. Note that these are laboratory notifications based on single IgM
positive specimens, and may not always represent infections from this season as IgM may
persist for long periods.
Ross River
notifications: The number
of cases reported through November, December and January were the highest on record, with
Greater Murray AHS constituting over 40% of all reports during this time. Notifications
from the inland peaked through November to December and declined noticeably thereafter. In
contrast, RR notifications peaked much later from coastal regions, during March to April.
Barmah
Forest notifications:
Relatively few cases of BF infection in humans were reported from the inland, with most
from the Far West and Greater Murray AHS. The 27 reports from the south coast is the
highest since the 1994-95 outbreak. All up, over half of the BF notifications in NSW were
from the mid-north and far north coast.
