| NSW Arbovirus Surveillance & Vector Monitoring Program |
1998 - 1999
Annual Report ![]() |
The aim of the
Program is to compile and analyse data collected over a number of successive years. This
will provide a solid base to determine the underlying causes for the seasonal fluctuations
in arbovirus activity and the relative abundance of the mosquito vector species affecting
the well-being of human communities. This information will then be used as a basis for
modifying existing local and regional vector control programs, and the creation of new
ones.
For 1998-99,
mosquito trapping sites were operated at 12 inland, 17 coastal and 6 Sydney locations.
Chicken sentinel flocks were monitored at seven centres. Macquarie Marshes was included
for the 1998-99 season. Bellingen, Boggabilla, Condobolin, Lake Cargelligo and Macksville
did not participate in the 1998-99 Program.
